An official Path Through History! Built in 1907 and opened on May 15, 1915, the Waterford Flight of Locks replaced the 16 original locks which lifts vessels 169’ from the Hudson River, bypassing the Cohoes Falls, to the Mohawk River. Waterford’s Flight of Locks is a set of five locks (E-2 through E-6) that make up a combined flight that was an engineering marvel that made the Erie Canal and Upstate New York integral to the economic success of the United States.
The Waterford Flight of Locks remains the highest elevation in the shortest distance in the world for canal locks. (169’ 1.5 miles)
INFORMATION AND RATES:
Come paddle through the highest elevation in the shortest distance for canal locks and check this off your bucket list! Paddling through the Flight of Locks is a one way excursion. It's a relaxing and scenic experience and is suitable for those comfortable sitting and paddling for approximately 2 – 3 hours. Each lock takes approximately 20 minutes to lower and exiting each lock provides unique and beautiful views, so don’t forget your camera!
Cost: $40.00 For groups larger than 10, please contact us.

From 6 miles to 60 miles! Let us know your ability and we'll map out the route. We have the kayaks and now we have beach bikes! Depending on the time of year, paddling routes may vary. Like all of our other services, this is an "at your own risk" excursion. Upstate Kayak Rentals is simply providing you with the equipment. As always, when paddling on our rivers and canals, kayakers should always paddle close to the shoreline and out of the boating channels. When biking, remember to maintain your awareness and stay on bike paths and/or designated shared roadways.
Cost: $40.00 per person
UNGUIDED: Please note, at this time, our paddle / pedal excursions are "not guided" but easy to follow and enjoy. We will meet you on site to provide instructions and to deliver your equipment. If you'd prefer to paddle with a fellow paddler/beach biker, please let us know and we'll see what we can do.
