Upstate Kayak Rentals wants you to explore all the various beautiful waterways the Capital District has to offer in the most convenient way possible and we have 15 different locations for you to explore! In addition to kayak rentals, we also offer paddle/pedal excursions and self-guided tours through Waterford's Flight of Locks. Upstate Kayak Rentals offers 2 staffed locations (Waterford Boat Launch and Mohawk Harbor) and 13 easy to use self-serve rental sites, with various traveling adventures throughout the season (follow us on Facebook).
Visit a different location and/or excursion throughout the season for a new and exciting paddling experience. Every year we add something new!

Upstate Pontoon CharterS
Upstate Kayak Rentals has partnered with Upstate Pontoon Charters! Enjoy a relaxing scenic cruise on the Historic Erie Canal/Mohawk River between Locks 6 and 7 with Capt Donna.
We'll start our cruise at the Halfmoon Crescent Kayak Launch located on Terminal Road on Rt 9 and head westbound under the Rt. 9 and Twin Bridges and around the Island. Enjoy a different perspective from the water! Feel free to bring a small cooler or snacks. No red wine please. Cruise is approximately 1 hour-ish.
Cost: $25 pp up to 6 guests.

Our Self Serve Kayak Rental Kiosk System
A woman owned, designed and built starting in 2017, our self serve kayak rental system was specifically designed to rent kayaks by the pair to ensure the safety of our paddlers.
Being on the water is peaceful and relaxing, however, unforeseen incidents can occur, especially on waterways with motor boats that create wakes. Therefore, our system was designed to rent kayaks by the pair so you have a paddling buddy.
Our easy to use reservation system means customers simply select their desired 3 hour time frame and enjoy paddling anytime within that time bracket at a flat rate. Whether it's one, two or three hours of desired paddling time, your algo code works anytime during the pre-selected time frame to lock and unlock your pair of kayaks. This means there's no worry about hourly fees or traveling to a kiosk and risk availability. We designed our system for customers to enjoy their time on the water with no worries.
If you are a frequent paddler and have your own life jacket and paddle, please feel free to bring your own. Rental gear is included and is stowed in the ventilated hatches below each kayak. Upon removing your kayaks, simply open the hatches, grab your gear and go!
For Municipalities, Waterway Associations and/or Local Outfitters
If you're looking to build a water trail system, create local recreation, and/or expand to your existing outfitting company, consider partnering with us to help you build and grow your seasonal business and/or water trail. Our self-serve kayak rental system is an easy and affordable way to help build recreational water time for communities that are unable to own their own boats.
Pricing
Our pricing is affordable, profitable and easy to use. You pay a one time set up / build / installation fee for each system, we manage the calls and reservations, you receive half the proceeds.
New 6 place kiosk system: $12,000 fully equipped and ready to go as shown below (plus delivery). Plastic lumber add $3,000.
